How To Vote

ELECTION DAY IS OCTOBER 18TH, 2021

Municipal election is held every four years. The election is to elects 1 Mayor, 8 City Councillors, 7 separate school board trustees, and 7 public school board trustees. To read an in-depth description of the roles and responsibilities of the Mayor and Councillors – click here.

In Grande Prairie, you will need to vote for up to 8 Council members and only 1 Mayor. This means you have the option of picking up to 8 Council members however, this is not compulsory, you can simply pick 1 or 2 Councillors you desire to vote for on election day.


WHO CAN VOTE AND HOW?

Anyone who meets the following criteria may vote in the Grande Prairie municipal election.

  1. You can provide valid ID (check here for a list)
  2. You are at least 18 years of age;
  3. You are a Canadian citizen;
  4. You are a resident of the City of Grande Prairie at least 6months by election day.

ADVANCED POLLS VOTING – WHERE AND WHEN?

Dates:

  • Friday, October 8, 2021
  • Saturday, October 9, 2021
  • Friday, October 15, 2021
  • Saturday, October 16, 2021

Time: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day

Location:

CAN I APPLY FOR A SPECIAL MAIL-IN BALLOT?

If you are not going to be within the City area on the election day, or if you have physical limitations that hinder your ability to vote at either an advance voting station or on election day, you will be able to apply for a Special Ballot.
